Elsie Irene Hermenitt

Elsie Irene Hermenitt, age 83 of Hastings, passed away Wednesday December 5, 2012 at her home with family at her side. She was born January 22, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of Frank and Lela Miller.

Elsie attended a one room school house in Freeport, Michigan until the 8th grade. She left school to work on the family farm and help raise the younger children of the family. Elsie married George Hermenitt at the age of 19. That marriage later ended in divorce.

Elsie was a dedicated employee of Hastings Manufacturing for over 30 years until she retired at age 59 ½. She thoroughly enjoyed her retirement years. Elsie was not of a religious sort, but did believe in God. She was a good and honorable person and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Elsie enjoyed playing Bingo, reading and gambling at the Casino. She loved her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lela Miller; brothers: Herb Miller, Robert Miller, Don Miller and Frank Miller Jr.; sisters: Helen Galbrath, Marion Dipp, Martha Miller, Katherine Miller; and nephew Herb Miller Jr.

Elsie is survived by her sons: Robert Hermenitt; Keith (Deb) Hermenitt, Phillip (Mary) Hermenitt, Dale (Deb) Hermenitt; sister, Esther Miller; grandchildren: Joseph Hermenitt, Joshua Hermenitt, Kandy, Brandon and Heidi and six great grandchildren.

Elsie was at peace with her passing. She was a survivor of Non-hodgkin’s cancer. Respecting Elsie’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are being held.  Elsie was loved by family and friends and will be sadly missed by all that knew her.
