Allen Frank Gramzinski

August 21, 1940 — April 16, 2024

Hastings

Allen Frank Gramzinski passed away on April 16, 2024, in Hastings, MI. Allen was born on August 21, 1940, in Chicago, IL, to the late Frank Vincent and Marguerite Marie (Bender) Gramzinski.

He was a 1958 graduate of Kelvyn High School in Chicago.  Allen's career spanned four decades at the Chicago Tribune from 1963-2003.

Allen's heart was fullest when surrounded by his family. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Loretta Gramzinski, sharing 60 years until her passing. Together, they built a legacy that will be carried on by their children, Robert Allen (Karen) Gramzinski, Dawn Marie (Ronald) (nee Gramzinski) Glavan, and Cheryl Lynn (nee Gramzinski) Brunette.

His role as a grandfather and great-grandfather brought him immense joy, and his memory will live on through his grandchildren, Jarek, Michaela, and Katrina Gramzinski; Caitlin (Kevin) Hudoba; Michael Glavan; Bailey (Tanner) Bloss; Daniel (Farhana) Brunette; and Alexandra Brunette; and great-grandchildren, Jude and Lennon Bloss, Emmeline, and Mirabelle Hudoba.

Allen enjoyed boating and was often seen navigating the tranquil waters of Algonquin Lake, with his wife Loretta. The Lake House on Algonquin Lake was the site of many cherished family gatherings, where Allen was happiest hosting loved ones. His involvement with the Algonquin Community Lake Association was a reflection of his commitment to his community. For many years, he transported the annual Fourth of July fireworks by boat to the island and was a fixture at the Association's annual picnic dinner with his famous baked beans. As a young man, Allen enjoyed building model airplanes and later, repairing cars.

A private interment will take place. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at 1:00 PM at 2228 Wasabinang St; Hastings, MI 49058.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation (https://www.myeloma.org/donate).
