Barbara Mae Main, age 88, passed away on February 24, 2026, after losing her battle with cancer. Barb was born on October 5th, 1937, the daughter of Harold Edward Norton and Mabel Anna (Service) Norton. She was a lifelong resident of Hastings.
Barb married the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Main, on October 10, 1953. They were married for 57+ years until Dick's passing. Together, they raised three children.
Barb worked in her mother's diner, M and M's Coffee Shop, on Michigan Avenue, and also at Highland Dairy. In Later years, she worked at Hastings Manufacturing, where she retired from.
In addition to working outside the home, she was also a seamstress extraordinaire, sewing everything from clothing for her family to wedding dresses and beautiful formal jackets for her son's dances in high school. Additionally, she learned how to knit using a knitting machine that she called "Guzzi," making clothing and personalized Christmas stockings for family and many others around town. In later years, she began to quilt, making beautiful blankets and wall hangings for family members. She took many sewing classes and taught many classes to others around Michigan, with Dick going along to do the driving and heavy lifting. Barb also spent many years with a booth at SummerFest here in Hastings, selling doll clothes and other craft items.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, her daughter, Jacki, and her son, Ron. She is survived by her son Bob (Ellyn) Main, grandchildren Ashley (Zach) Cook, Caitlin Main, and Sarah (Eryn) Powers, Cody (Katie) White, and Kyle (Franki) White, as well as three great-granddaughters, Kelby, Tova, and Imrie White, and several nieces and nephews.
