Berna C. Trascik age 78 of Battle Creek, passed away on Monday December 1, 2008 at her residence.\r
She was born in Kalamazoo, April 9th, 1930, to Beatrice Barton and Herbert Jackson. She and her younger sister Elinor were inseparable, preferring to be known as the Lone Ranger and Tonto. She graduated from Battle Creek Central and was the captain of the first band follies chorus line. She attended Kalamazoo College. Berna married Tom Harter in 1949 and together they had 3 daughters. She taught ball room and tap dancing for Fred Astaire dance studio. She worked for the Battle Creek Recreation Department from 1960-1973 where she taught dancing, swimming, and organized programs for women, seniors, and children. \r
She married Harry Trascik on December 31, 1976. Mrs. Trascik was an insurance agent for Farmers Insurance Group, and continued to work for the company until 1981. \r
After country living in Manistee, Michigan, for 5 years, the Trasciks became residents of Hastings, Michigan. They enjoyed Leach Lake for 6 months and Brownsville, Texas for 6 months each year. \r
Widowed in 1999, she moved to Battle Creek and began a new life. She became a member of the First Wesleyan Church and participated in many classes and activities. She was a volunteer at the Calhoun County Medical Facility. She was an avid seamstress and enjoyed making doll clothes for various craft shows. She enjoyed playing the piano, dancing, swimming, and reading. She loved spending time with her family and had many special friends throughout the country.\r
Berna is survived by daughters Karen (George) Tatum of Plainwell, Shelley (Donald) Shipley of Battle Creek, Gayle (Virgil) Archie of Battle Creek, granddaughter Stacy Shipley, grandson Justin Archie U.S. Navy, sister Elinor Custer of Marshall, and two special nephews Wayne Custer of Pismo Beach California and Martin Custer of Marshall.\r
Friends and family are invited to share in a celebration of Bernaâ??s life at the First Wesleyan Church, Battle Creek, at 11 am on Thursday December 4, 2008. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Calhoun County Medical Facility, or www.standup2cancer.org.\r
