In the early hours of the 13 th of December 2012, Bernd Otto Gutgsell took his last breath. At 57, Bernd completed his turn on Earth. He was surrounded by his loving mother Margarete, his wife Debra, and two of his daughters. Born on January 26 th 1955 Bernd was the only son of Otto and Margarete Gutgsell. He was born in Frieburg, Germany and immigrated to America in the early 60's. Bernd learned English as a boy by assimilation and in his conversations people were amazed English was his second language… He was an athletic teen and participated in wrestling, football, swimming, and soccer. While he was in HS Bernd worked side by side with his mom and dad to build their American dream home. He learned many skills from this experience which served him well. Bernd graduated from Lake Orion HS in 1973. Worked at GM for a while and graduated from Northern Michigan University in 1980 in spite of the seizures which plagued his life.
Bernd worked at Cascade Engineering for many years and lastly at Hastings Manufacturing.
His favorite hobbies were having a project or sometimes many …
Remodeling his home, scroll sawing creations, mowing grass and spending time with his family.
He married Debra McMillan (Gregory) on February 12, 1993.
Bernd is preceded in death by his father Otto Gutgsell also son and daughter-in-law Darren/Chelsea Gregory.
Bernd left a legacy of example to his surviving family by his endurance to the end in spite of obstacles, horrible health issues, and holding to the rod.
His survivors are:
Mother/Margarete Gutgsell, widow Debra, In-Laws Robert/Wilma McMillan, Children:
Aaron/Lori Gregory, Kari/Bret VanZanten, Sherri/Paul Roberts, and Marie Gutgsell.
Eleven Grandkids:
Emilia, Yazmien, Caleb, Kyler, Madison, Katelyn, Sophia, Hayden, Lillian, Cade, and AnnaLee.
