Carlota Erlinda Tobias, age 93, of Hastings, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026. She was born on December 23, 1932, in Marquez, New Mexico, to loving parents Crestino and Elcira Marquez, who preceded her in death.
Carlota attended Harwood Girls School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. On October 9, 1951, she married the love of her life, Bernard Wesley Tobias. Together they shared nearly 48 wonderful years of marriage before Bernard's passing on August 13, 1999.
Carlota dedicated more than 25 years of her career to Hastings Aluminum, where she was known for her strong work ethic and friendly spirit.
She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish and the American Legion Auxiliary and a volunteer for the Commission on Ageing.
She found great joy in life's simple pleasures and especially cherished time spent with her family. She loved cooking delicious meals, making crafts, crocheting, embroidering, playing cards and games, and attending dances. She enjoyed traveling in their motor home, spending winters in Arizona with Bernard. She also adored her faithful companions, Petey, her bantam rooster, and Precious, her rag doll cat.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernard Wesley Tobias; her sister, Louisa Montoya; her brother, Silvano Marquez; and her grandson, Jeremiah Johnson.
Carlota is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Kathy (Thomas) Johnson and Kimberley (Wayne) Tollon; her grandchildren, Kelly (Leslie) Cummings, Garrett (Morgan) Filips, and Leigha (Trevor Bourdeau) Filips; and her great-grandchildren, Smith Filips and Ada Filips, brother Flavio Marquez. She is also survived by many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will all miss her deeply.
