Catherine Elizabeth Pittman

Catherine Elizabeth (Jones) Pittman passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2012.

She was born August 4, 1913, Assyria Township, Bellevue, Michigan to Hugh and Irene Jones.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh S. and Irene (Cummings) Jones; husband, Thomas A. Pittman; brothers: Sherman Jones, Bellvue, MI and Louis Jones, Spring Lake, MI.

Catherine is survived by her children: Neil C. Holtom, Manistique, MI, Louise Watts, Lake, MI; sister, Yvonne (Bonnie) Barrett, Warren, Maine; six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Following graduation from Bellevue High School in 1931, Catherine attended County Normal College in Hastings, teaching in numerous schools in and around Barry County.

In 1935 Catherine married Carol Holtom. The marriage ended in divorce.

In 1956 Catherine moved to California where she taught school and completed her Bachelor of Arts degree from Chapman College, Orange, California in 1961; continuing her education in photography and choral music. She taught 4-H Equestrian horsemanship, trail riding and showing skills in Lone Pine, California for several years.

Catherine married Thomas Pittman in 1965 where upon they returned to Michigan making their home in the Lacey and Dowling area. Following retirement Catherine became the Dowling librarian for two years.

Catherine was a nurturing, loving and courageous mother and grandmother, she will leave a void in the lives of all who loved her.

Respecting Catherine's wishes, cremation has taken place.  A Memorial service will be Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Pleasantview Family Church, 2601 Lacey Rd., Dowling, MI  49050.
