Cecelia Joan Martin

Cecelia Joan Martin, age 78, of Custer, Michigan and formerly of Hastings, passed away October 24, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center in Ludington, Michigan.

She was born April 4, 1933 in Ithaca, Michigan, the daughter of Harley and Neva (Wilkinson) Gantz.

Joan attended and graduated from Ithaca High School in 1951. She worked for Dale's Bakery, for a short time, when she first came to Hastings. Joan also worked for Hastings Manufacturing and the Tiki Bar Restaurant before going to work for City Food and Beverage, later renamed, Felpausch Express Mart, where she retired from 32 years later.

Joan married Donald Martin on June 11, 1951. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage together. Joan and Don loved to travel, in fact, they saw all 50 states and some of them even twice. Joan loved to watch the birds, especially the hummingbirds come into the bird feeders. She also enjoyed her gardens, flowers, mushrooming, crossword puzzles, cooking and gambling at the Casino. Joan's greatest joy in life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Pat and Shirley; brother, Stuart and son, Michael Lynn in 2002.

Joan is survived by her husband, Donald; children: Craig (Marianne) Martin of Hastings, Kathy (Ed) Pike of Grand Rapids, Susanne Parker, Marianne (Mike) Slocum, Marcia (Frank) Look, all of Hastings; grandchildren: Kimo, Emily, Cecily, Lauren, Ellen, Ryan, Seth, Justin, Elizabeth, Amanda, Mitchell, Loxci , 14 great- grandchildren, and two brothers:  Roger (Carol) Gantz of Ithaca and Bill Gantz of Maryland.
