Charles Ray Purdum, Sr.

Charles Ray Purdum, Sr., age 87, of Hastings, Michigan, passed away on June 10, 2023.

Charles was born in Kennon, Wisconsin on October 14, 1935, the son of Wilbur and Beryl (Funk) Purdum.

Charles worked in manufacturing at Middleville Manufacturing, Lescoa in Middleville, Atwood Corporation in Lowell, Barry County Redi-Mix and Consumers Concrete, before starting his own business, Purdum's Construction.

On August 27, 1955, Charles married Gladys Sears, and they enjoyed 65 years together until her passing in 2021.

Charles was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Eagles.  He enjoyed trapshooting with the Moose Lodge's Sportsmen's League.  He was a good mechanic and enjoyed collecting and restoring old cars.  He loved gardening and outdoor work, hunting, fishing, bowling, and spending time with family at cookouts and reunions.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, wife Gladys Purdum, brothers Harvey, Sam, Bill, Fred, and Red (Marlan) Purdum, and grandchildren Jordy Ray Purdum and Jessica Sue Purdum.

He is survived by his children Chuck Ray (Cathy) Purdum Jr., Jeff L (Lonna) Purdum, Candy Irene (Ken) Starr, Tony Lane Purdum, and Tim Lee (Deanice) Purdum, sisters Phyllis Peters and Bonnie Heizler, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
