Charles Zombor

June 22, 1938 — June 15, 2024

Charles Zombor, age 85, passed away at his home in Hastings, Michigan on June 15th after a short and aggressive battle with pancreatic cancer. After leaving Budapest, Hungary at the age of 18, being a refugee in Austria, he made the journey to the United States. He met and married his wife Mary in August of 1958, living in several cities before settling in Hastings as residents for nearly 59 years.

Chuck was a father to his 6 children and 2 adopted great-grandchildren. He was generous beyond measure, at times even giving to others as he went without, working multiple jobs each day to provide for his family and those he cared for. He was a maintenance man who loved to tinker with his tools and was happiest when he could spend time building something. He was the king of stretching, counting and rolling his pennies. Always saving and teaching his kids how to be financially responsible and still care for others through giving. He was hard working, genuine, loyal, loving, determined, and sometimes very stubborn. His greatest joy was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who he loved getting pictures of and sharing his love of $2 bills with. He was a fierce competitor at Scrabble, who loved a good game of Euchre, Uno, or dice with friends and family.

He missed his family in Budapest greatly, and traveled back whenever he could save up the funds and vacation time. A priority for him was making sure that his children were able to meet their Hungarian relatives and forge a relationship across the miles.

He was an active member of the West Hastings Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and dedicated much of his time and life to living out the practices of his faith, especially when it came to building and renovating Kingdom Halls. He traveled to Mexico, Texas, Florida and throughout Michigan to assist in these endeavors. He loved nothing more than having a measuring tape in one hand, and a hammer in the other.

Chuck will be forever remembered and missed by his children John Zombor (Tom), James Zombor (Julie), Jerry Zombor, Julie Kammer (Jim), Rebeccah Dubicki (Steve), Xzavion Zombor and Kari Hughes (Dawson). His beloved brother, Levente Zombor (Marika), sister-in-law Linda Kulpa (Joe), brothers-in-law Robert Christian and Richard Christian (Kathy) along with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

He was proceeded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 63 years, Mary Zombor. His eldest son, Jeffrey Zombor. His parents Janos and IIona Zombor. His eldest brother Art Zombor as well as sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents and his granddaughter Cheyenne Panske-Zombor.
