Clinton Russell Raines

Clinton Russell Raines age 87 of Hastings passed away January 23, 2014 at Woodlawn Meadows in Hastings.

Clint was born on May 15, 1926 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the son of Russell and Ina (Haagenson) Raines. He attended and graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Clint attended college at the School of Mines in Rapid City, South Dakota and the University of South Dakota. He honorably served as a US Naval Pilot during World War II.

Clint married Peggy Peterson on August 4, 1946. He worked as the general manager and private pilot for Aircraft Components in Benton Harbor, Michigan from 1948 until his retirement. Clint enjoyed traveling with his wife, Peggy and woodworking. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and planned fun activities to do with them.

Clint was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Hastings. He was the National Director and President of the Michigan Quarter Horse Association and past President of the Benton Harbor School Board.

Clint was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Ina Raines and his wife, Peggy (Peterson) Raines.

He is survived by his sister, Joyce Raines of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, daughters: Julie (Ron) Dingerson of Woodland, MI, Renee (Doyle) Dingman of Bellevue, MI, Cynthia Turecamo of South Salem, NY, grandchildren: Sarah (Jeff) Geukes, Maggie (Jim) Benham, Abby (Josh) Mattice, Kelsey (Andy) Gilbert, Nicole (Ross) Honsberger, Carly Turecamo, Jennifer Turecamo, Scott Turecamo, eight great-grandchildren and brother-in-law, Jerry (Mary) Peterson of New Brunsfel, TX.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pennock Hospital, 1009 W. Green, Hastings, MI 49058 or the Alzheimer's Association.

A Memorial vistation will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2014 from 6-8 pm at the Girrbach Funeral Home in Hastings. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 10:00 am at the Grace Lutheran Church, 239 E. North St., Hastings, MI. Pastor Amy Luckey will officiate the service. A luncheon will follow the service at Ever After Banquet Hall in Hastings. Interment will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.
