Colleen Mary Schantz, age 87, passed away on June 14, 2017 at Thornapple Manor in Hastings.
Colleen was born on September 6, 1929 to Carey and Ethel (Bird) Jones in Hastings. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1947, where she was the Salutatorian of her class and also received the D.A.R. Good Citizenship Award during her senior year. She worked as a secretary at the E.W. Bliss Company until her marriage to Karl R. Schantz in June of 1949.
She was a longtime member of the Hendershot L.A.S., Hendershot Birthday Club, and Pennock Hospital Sewing Guild. She was a member of the Dowling Country Chapel from the age of 12 and held many positions in her church over the years. Colleen was also the Treasurer of Baltimore Township for many years.
Her many hobbies included camping in Northern Michigan, gardening, flower arranging, card playing, sewing, quilting, and spending time with her family.
Colleen is preceded in death by her parents, son, Michael Robert Schantz, and daughter-in-law, Kathleen Schantz.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Karl Schantz of Hastings, son, Stan (Jackie) Schantz of Hastings, daughter, Cheryl (Ron) Larabee of Delton, daughter-in-law, Sally Schantz of Hastings, grandchildren; Aaron (Alison) Schantz, Todd (Tiffany) Schantz, Shellie (Kevin) Hubert, Adam Schantz, Kevin Schantz, Jason (Carrie) Larabee and Jennifer (John) Dennis, 9 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Duane (Maxine) Jones of Dowling and Dale (Linda) Jones of Oxford, Florida, sister-in-law, Laura Berry of Vermontville, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 18, 2017 from 4-7 pm at the Girrbach Funeral Home in Hastings. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017 at 11:00 am also at the Girrbach Funeral Home. Pastor Rick Foster will officiate the service. Interment will take place at Dowling Cemetery. A luncheon at the Dowling Country Chapel Church will follow the burial.
