Daniel Wayne Koning

Daniel Wayne Koning, age 80, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, with his loving family by his side. Born on August 20, 1945, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Daniel lived a life defined by kindness, dedication, and deep love for his family and friends.

Daniel graduated from Grandville High School before proudly serving his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During this time while stationed in Atlanta, Georgia, he met the love of his life, Dawn. The two were united in marriage on October 13, 1966, and shared nearly 60 wonderful years together filled with devotion, laughter, and unwavering companionship.

Daniel devoted 40 years to Tannewitz, Incorporated, where he took great pride in building large industrial machines and traveling throughout the world to repair and service them before his retirement.

In his free time, Daniel enjoyed attending car shows and auctions and especially loved working on his treasured 1936 Ford Truck, affectionately known as the “rattle trap.” He was also a proud member of the American Legion. Above all else, Daniel will be remembered as a gentle, compassionate, and caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His quiet strength and warm heart touched everyone who knew him, and he will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Daniel is lovingly survived by his wife, Dawn Koning; his children, Preston Koning, Margo Koning, and Holly Pineiro; his grandson, Austin Koning; his brother, Tom; and special in-laws, Becky and Dan Rantanen.

In keeping with Daniel’s wishes, no formal services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Barry County Humane Society.
