David Daniel Dean, age 83, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018, peacefully in his sleep. David was born November 23, 1934 to mother Vera Lillian Landrum and Father Alton Odell Dean in the home his father built just west of Hornbeak, Tennessee. David was an avid hunter, fisher and writer. Known also as Dave by his friends and Paw Paw or Pawps by his grandchildren. David was self-educated and known well for his writings in various magazines. One of his first writings was at nine years of age, a poem about the first president of the United States, George Washington. He wrote multiple books describing his life, family and published his autobiography. Known well in the coon hunting world, Dave spent most of his life breeding, raising, and showing bluetick coonhounds.
David is survived by his sister Flossie Jean Smith-Hoffman, former wives Johnnie Andrews and Shirley Douglas, 7 children Jodi (Rusty) Iobe of Athens, Michigan, Cheri Prior of Battle Creek, Michigan, Susan (Michael) Wissner of Florence Kentucky, Dave Dean, Jr. of Battle Creek, Michigan, Robin Patterson of Ceresco, Michigan, Cynthia Fisher of Spring Arbor, Michigan, and Bonita Case of Downing, Michigan, 19 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. David was preceded in death by his mother and father, and sister Jenny Lee Woods.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 9, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Girrbach Funeral Home, 328 S. Broadway Street, Hastings, Michigan 49058. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Pleasant View Family Church 2791 Lacey Road, Dowling, Michigan 49050, with interment at Union Johnstown Cemetery. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon at the church, courtesy of the ladies from Pleasant View Family Church.
