Dorothy Jean Kelley, born February 14, 1936, in Alvon, West Virginia, was the beloved daughter of Jean and Jennie (Roberts) Kelley. She graduated from Woodland High School with the Class of 1953.
Dorothy began her working life at Hastings Manufacturing from 1953–54 before moving to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the U.S. Navy from 1954–1956. Her career later took her to California, where she was employed by Man Factors, Inc. in San Diego from 1969–1980, McWhinnie Supply Company from 1980–1982, and the City Attorney’s Office of San Diego from 1982 until her retirement in 1998.
Dorothy was gifted with a warm, creative spirit. She loved cooking and baking, and she found joy in knitting and crocheting baby afghans, many of which she lovingly donated to Pennock Hospital, where she was a member of Guild 15.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister June Durkee, and her brother‑in‑law Charles Heise. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Barbara Mays; grandchildren Ashley and Jonathan; sisters Joyce Heise and Janice Cook; and several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
