Dorothy Ann Reid

On March 4, 2021 Dorothy Ann (Bower) Reid age 91 went peacefully on to her heavenly home. Dorothy was born in Hastings on February 22,1930 to Fredrick F. and Amy I. (Still) Bower. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1948. After graduation she worked in the office at Grand Rapids Bookcase & Chair where she met her future husband Don C. Reid. They married on October 22,1949 and shared almost 54 years together before Don went to heaven in Sept. of 2003.

Dorothy attended EUB/Hope United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of the church choir. In later years she and Don attended Nashville Baptist Church. Most recently she attended Hastings First Baptist. Dorothy worked at the Bookcase until they started their family in 1951. She helped Don run Reid's Roller Rink, later known as Thornapple Roller Rink, until its sale in 1964. Dorothy later went back to work outside the home working at Consumers Power from 1967 until her retirement in 1987.

In her retirement, Dorothy enjoyed her new hobbies of golfing and quilting. She loved spending time with her five children and their families. She looked forward to the annual "Ladies Trips" that she took with her daughters and daughters-in-law. Dorothy enjoyed living with her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and John Winebrenner who took care of her in her later years. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered for her quiet, giving demeanor, sweet smile, and quick wit.

Mom will be greatly missed by her sons Andrew (Janice) Reid, Daniel (Monica) Reid; daughters Cindy (John) Winebrenner, and Carolyn (Marty) Cappon, daughter-in-law Joyce Griffen-Reid, Grandchildren; Justin Reid, Amber (Luis) Lopez-Reid, Robert Reid, Becky (Matt) Rasey, Angie (Dustin) Raffler, Kim (Steven) Speckman, Jesse (Jamie) Cappon, Amanda (Daniel) Blair, Ben (Samantha) Cappon, and Samuel Cappon: And 23 Great Grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by: her parents, husband Don C. Reid, sister Wanda (Carl) Colston, son Steven L. Reid, daughter-in-law Joyce Schiek-Reid, grandson Tony Reid and infant great grandson Nathan Rasey.
