Edward Joseph Bomer Jr.

Edward Joseph Bomer Jr., age 79 of Nashville, passed away Friday, August 22 2014 at Eaton Community Palliative Care in Charlotte.

Edward was born on March 24,1935 in Detroit, Michigan the son of Edward J. and Irene (Murzin) Bomer Sr. He attended Chadsey High School in Detroit, graduating in 1953. Ed married Claire E. McAfee on August 1, 1953. He worked for Humphrey Products, retiring on January 23, 2008.

Ed spent the majority of his life as a Patriot, giving up many luxuries and making many financial sacrifices that most of us take for granted. He was proud to be a protector of our freedoms. He educated the youth and others about the Constitution and preservation of our country. His sacrifices will live on through his sons, daughter and through all that knew him. Ed enjoyed backpacking, fishing, gardening, Latin Percussion and was a musician.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Irene Bomer, and brother-in-law, Howard Hayward.

Ed is survived by his wife of 61 years, Claire Bomer, his children: Michael Bomer of Grand Rapids, Michelle (Doug) Bennett of Rockford, Mark (Debra) Bomer of Nashville, Matthew Bomer of Vail, CO, Timothy Bomer of Denver, CO, grandchildren: Kathleen and Joel Lucas, Christian, John and Maria; Joshua Bennett and Fiance' Andrea Benjamin and Jenelle, Katie and Nick Acker, Holly, Heather, Amanda, Samantha and Danielle, great-grandchildren: Brody Joseph, Emerson and Caroline, sisters: Dorothy Hayward, Nancy (Tom) Mattias, brother Norman (Marie) Bomer, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the Girrbach Funeral Home in Hastings, from 6pm until 8pm. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 11am at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 153 Garfield SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504.
