Eleanor Louise Turnes, age 89 of Hastings, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018.
Eleanor was born on June 11, 1928 in Ionia County, Michigan, the daughter of Ivan and Florence (Thompson) Sower. She married August Turnes on August 17, 1974 and they were married 43 years.
Eleanor worked for the Atwood Corporation, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Church. Eleanor enjoyed bowling and golfing. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her children, grandchildren and extended family.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, August Turnes Jr., parents, Ivan and Florence Sower, step-father, Howard Shepard, brother, George Sower, nephew, Larry Sower, and son-in-law, Ed Fisher.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Frank) Price, step-children, Gloria Erskine, Mark (Molly) Turnes and Tracie Fisher, several brother and sister-in-laws, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Girrbach Funeral Home in Hastings. A Celebration of Life Service will follow visitation at 12:00 pm. Interment will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the Barry County Commission on Aging, 320 W. Woodlawn Ave., Hastings, MI.
