Elsie Mae Venema, age 87 of Hastings, Michigan, died Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Spectrum Health Pennock. She was born March 19, 1928, the daughter of Charles and Elsie Mae (Kagy) Messer.
Elsie graduated in 1976 at the age of 48 from Wyoming Community Education (High School). She worked as a mail clerk at Amway for 15 years before retiring in 1994. Elsie married Francis Seba September 24, 1962. She was a member at Seventh-Day Adventist Church for 35 years. Elsie's hobby was crocheting. She was also an avid reader and was a nick-nack collector including stamps.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Francis Seba Venema, step-son, Randy Venema, brothers, Lawrence Messer, Charles Messer and sister, Leona Kline
She is survived by her four children; daughters, Juanita Venema of Hastings, Joan Shepard of Grand Rapids, sons, Dwight Howell of Winona, Minnesota, Danny (Jodie) Howell of Orlando, Florida, step-sons, Richard (Phyllis) Venema, Raymond (Kathy) Venema, Ronnie (Barb) Venema, brother, Bernie Messer, sister, Mary Rodgers, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial Contributions can be made to Cornerstone Living Center, 2900 Kellems Dr. Hastings, MI 49058.
Honoring Elsie's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
