Eva Jean Williams

March 6, 1948 — July 29, 2024

**NOTE UPDATED SERVICE TIME**

Eva Jean Williams, affectionately known as Meme, passed away peacefully under hospice care with her family by her side on July 29, 2024, in Battle Creek, Michigan. She was born on March 6, 1948, in Hastings, Michigan, the daughter of Lewis and Dorothy (Flewellen) Reid.

Eva attended Hastings High School. On September 24, 1967, Eva married Richard Williams.  Her career was dedicated to the most noble of callings: she was a homemaker and a caregiver, not only to her own family but also to her grandchildren, whom she had a significant hand in raising. Her nurturing spirit was the cornerstone of her family's happiness and well-being.

Eva's interests and hobbies were as vibrant and nurturing as her personality. She had an unparalleled love for her Chihuahuas, often seen pushing them in strollers at flea markets at Shipshewana, sharing her joy with everyone she met. Camping trips with her husband and grandchildren were cherished times, especially at Alice Springs or Tyler Creek Campgrounds, where memories were made and laughter echoed through the trees. Her garden was a reflection of her soul, blooming with beautiful flowers that she tended with care and pride. An avid shopper, Eva enjoyed watching the shopping channel, QVC, finding treasures and delights that she would often share with her loved ones.

Her faith was an important aspect of her life, and she loved attending Thornapple Valley Church, where she found strength and community.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Jeanne Williams, her brother Bob Cross, her best friend, Becky (Chuck) Flowers, and her beloved Chihuahuas Dolly and Chiquita.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Richard "Rick" Williams and daughter Amy (Larry) Winchel. Her role as Meme extended to her precious grandchildren Ashley (TJ) Shive, Kristie (Derek) Piper, Justin Piper, Aaron Williams, and her great-grandchildren Alexa Piper, Natalyn Shive, Elsie Shive, Veda Piper, and Bronx Williams, who shared a birthday with her. The recent addition to the family, Eva Motsinger, was named after her great-grandmother, continuing her legacy. She is also survived by her sister Geneva Strimback, her brother Duane Cross, and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 9:30 AM at Barryville Cemetery, 6043 E M-79 Hwy, Nashville, MI 49073. Memorial Contributions in memory of Eva can be made to the Ionia County Animal Shelter, 3853 Sparrow Drive, Ionia, MI 48846. Arrangements by Girrbach Funeral Home.
