Fern Irene Poland of Middleville was blessed with 99 years on this earth. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, and a friend to so many, has gone to be with The Lord on Tuesday, August 17, 2021.
Fern was born in Irving Township, Barry County, Middleville, MI, on May 17, 1922. She grew up in Middleville on her father, Guy, and mother, Wretha McNee's farm. Fern married Charles B. Poland in October 1942. Fern enjoyed being a stay-at-home mother to 3 children, Larry, Beverly, and Joyce. After 51 years in the home that Charles built, they moved to Pennock Village in Hastings. Fern enjoyed cooking for Charles and keeping a clean and organized home. In later years, they were moved to Carveth Village in Middleville. They were married 71 years, until Charles went to be with The Lord on January 13, 2014. They were members of the First Baptist Church of Middleville and attended the Hastings Free Methodist Church. Fern was a true Christian Lady and loved Jesus. The Lord is her Savior.
During her lifetime, Fern also enjoyed making handmade quilts. She made over 100 quilts, and she hand painted Bible verses, pictures, and her loving personal quotes. Fern gave many quilts to family and friends for graduation, birthdays, and Christmas gifts. In later years, she made potholders and also gave them away as gifts. She also collected placemats for many years from restaurants where she and Charles enjoyed eating out. Her collection is in the thousands.
Fern is survived by her daughters, Beverly J. McDowell of Fort Worth, TX and Joyce (Charlie) Fisher of Woodland, MI and daughter-in-law Sandra Poland of Hastings, MI. Also grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, wonderful nieces, great-nieces, nephew, their families and many, many friends.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband Charles, son Larry Poland, her parents Guy and Wretha McNee, her sister June and (Howard) Colburn, brothers Clarence and Baby Howard McNee.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 11:00 AM with a service following at Noon at the First Baptist Church, 5215 M-37, Middleville, MI 49333 followed by a luncheon. Internment will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Middleville, MI.
Memorial contributions in Fern's name may be made to the First Baptist Church of Middleville, or to the charity of one's choice.
