Fred Irvin Strang, Sr.

Fred Irvin Strang, age 84, of Hastings, Michigan, passed away on August 14, 2025. He was born on May 31, 1941, in Rockford, Illinois, to Melvin and Florence (Harrington) Strang. Fred grew up in Rockford surrounded by the love and lively spirit of his 21 siblings.

Fred married the love of his life, Suzanne (Wilson) Strang, and together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage until her passing on September 7, 2019. Throughout his career, Fred worked diligently—five years with Green Giant, ten years with Coca-Cola, and an incredible 41 years as a Plating Engineer Technician at Rockford Screw Products.

He was a proud member of TOPS #1910 and a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hastings. Fred had a meticulous passion for building World War II airplane models, ensuring every detail—from structure to color—was historically accurate. He was a natural conversationalist who loved meeting people, sharing stories, and listening with genuine interest.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Suzanne; and his daughters, Doris Eileen (Strang) Haven and Venus Marie (Strang) Try.

He is survived by his son, Fred (Diane) Strang Jr.; son-in-law, Jeremy Try; grandchildren, Jesse Try and Ashley Try; and great-grandson, Jasper.

A private local memorial service will be held at a later date, as will a graveside with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Machesney Park, Illinois.
