Gary William ""Buck"" Rogers, age 63 of Hastings, Michigan passed away October 18, 2010 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was born October 19, 1946 in Hastings, Michigan the son of Gerald C. and Ilene B. (Polhemus) Rogers. Gary attended Hastings High School and graduated in 1965. Gary honorably served in the US Army, Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968, as a combat engineer. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Gary married Carol J. McAllister on October 16, 1976. He worked for the Barry County Road Commission for 24 1/2 years, retiring on November 1, 2008. He worked as a heavy equipment operator on a motor grader. He was a trustee for Rutland Charter Township for eight years and a member of the Barry County Steam and Gas Club. Gary was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed golfing, gardening, woodworking, John Deere tractor restoration and was a Nascar enthusiast. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Michael Rogers. He is survived by his wife, Carol J.Rogers of Hastings, daughter, Katharine J. (Matt) Demny, sisters; Mary Beth Bieller of Augusta, Georgia, Christine (Marc) Bondy of Novi, Michigan, Jennifer Kilijian (Joe Helbert) of Atlanta, Georgia and many nieces, nephews and loving friends. Visitation will be held Saturday October 23, 2010 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Thornapple Valley Church. A Memorial service will follow visitation starting at 11:00am at Thornapple Valley Church, 2750 S. M-43 Hwy. Hastings, MI. Reverend Carla Smith will be officiating the service. Internment at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of ones choice.
