George Edward Brown, age 98, of the Villages, Florida, passed away on February 2, 2020. George was born on December 8, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of George and Gertrude Anna (Esch) Brown.
George was a graduate of Mackenzie High School in Detroit, Michigan. He worked for the Detroit City Division of Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company, where he met his wife, Martha Jane Kinsey. They were married in June 23, 1950. He then went on to work for Sherwin Williams Company and the Ferro Corporation. He retired in 1987 and moved to Hastings Michigan. George proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Marine Corp, where he was stationed in the South Pacific and Guadalcanal.
George enjoyed traveling and playing golf. He was a member of the Hastings Country Club, where he was honored as a Legend at the 2014 Member-Guest Tournament. He was a long-standing member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hastings where he held several offices.
George was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Martha, his daughter Sue (Dave) Doozan of The Villages, FL, and his son, Richard (Wendy) Brown of Milford, MI and his six grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Sumter Grand 1490 Killingsworth Way, the Villages, FL 32162 at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 29, 2020. Internment, with full military honors will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery on Friday, October 16, 2020 at Noon.
