Gerald Elsworth Westphal

Gerald "Jerry" Elsworth Westphal, age 77 of Hastings, passed away June 29, 2019 at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Gerald was born on November 28, 1941 in Spring Valley, Minnesota, the son of Henry and Helen (Ellis) Westphal.    He attended Stewartville High School, graduating in 1959.  He married Elizabeth (Betty) Francis on September 19, 1959.  Jerry was employed by Simplex Time Recorder Company, retiring in 1998.

Jerry's hobbies included golf, fishing, reading, and playing cards.  He also enjoyed going to church and spending time with his grandchildren.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Helen Westphal and wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Westphal.

He is survived by his children:  son, Scott Westphal and daughter Jill Marie of St. Paul, MN, son, Brian (Bette) Westphal of Woodbury, MN and their children, Michael and Matthew Westphal, son, Mark (Carol) Westphal of Savage, MN and their children, Jessica (Ulises) Galvan, Justyne (Mike) Vogel, and Trevor and Emelia Westphal, daughter, Andra (Kevin) King of Wyoming, MI and their son, Henry King, daughter, Amy (Jacob) DeKleine of What Cheer, Iowa and their children, Josh (Melanie) DeKleine, Jared (Abbie) DeKleine, Justin (Makayla) DeKleine, 13 great-grandchildren, brother, Leonard Westphal, Jerry's companion, Marcia Schondelmayer and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Welcome Corners Church, 3185 N. M-43 Hwy., Hastings, Michigan.  Pastor Ken Shook will officiate the service.
