Gertrude Maria Hentschel, passed away August 22, 2013 at Carveth Village, Middleville, MI, in attendance was her son Wolfram. She was 95 years old and was a resident of Pennock Village in Hastings, prior to her move to Carveth Village in 2012.
Gertrude was born August 23, 1917 in Oppeln, Germany to Paul and Agnes Potempa. She married Alfred R. Hentschel on November 14, 1939 in Oppeln, Germany. He died February 3, 1988.
Gertrude was educated in Germany and graduated from the Notre Dame Lyceum in Oppeln, Germany. She worked at Saint Joseph's College for 23 years and retired as an Executive Secretary.
She was a Fellow of Saint Joseph's College. Gertrude moved to Hastings from Rensselaer, Indiana, where she had lived for over 57 years.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her sons, Ingo W. (Elaine) Hentschel, Atlanta, Georgia and Wolfram H. (Mary) Hentschel, Hastings, Michigan, three grandchildren: Ingo E. (Tracy) Hentschel, Oceanside, CA, Wolfram J. Hentschel, Grand Rapids, MI, Rachelle (James) Jones, Woodbridge, VA, four great-grandchildren: Karissa and Nathan Jones, Woodbridge, VA, Dylan and Eric Hentschel, Oceanside, CA, one brother, Dietmar (Gerda) Potempa, Wunstorf, Germany, three sisters: Helga Harnack, Luebeck, Germany, Hildegarde Bobrucki, Bristol, England, Rosemarie (Herbert) Wilkening, Wunstorf, Germany and numerous nephews and nieces in Germany and England.
Memorial services will be held at a future date in Rensselair, Indiana.
