Funeral Mass for Helen Irene Thomas will be held on Saturday, February 22, at 11:00 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
Helen died February 17th at her home surrounded by her husband, all of her children and her sister.
She was born in Middleville on September 15, 1929 and graduated from Hastings High School in 1947.
Helen was married to Mason Thomas on July 23, 1949.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years , Mason. Also surviving are her children, Chris Jenkins, Diane Dipert (Don Conner), Mary (William) Burghdoff, Nancy (Jeff) Buehl, Jim (Jill) Thomas, Jack (Joanie) Thomas, sister, Katy Colvin; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, Thomas and Zora (Dorman) Loftus, and step-mother, Margaret (Wills) Loftus; also her brothers Tommy, Alfred, Leo, and sister Mary (Davis).
Helen was employed at Hastings Manufacturing prior to her marriage and Thornapple Community Credit Union after raising her 6 children. She loved playing bridge, or any card game, bingo, solving any kind of puzzle, as well as spending time with family and friends. She was an exceptional cook and homemaker and leaves behind a loving family.
Arrangements are by the Girrbach Funeral Home in Hastings. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home Friday from 5:30 until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pennock Hospice, Barry County Commission on Aging, or Thornapple Manor.
