Howard Leon Wilson, age 81 of Hastings, passed away November 16, 2018 at his home.
Howard was born on January 30, 1937 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Beulah May (Gilbert) Peterman. Howard started his education in Lansing and graduated from Lake Odessa High School. He honorably served in the Michigan National Guard from 1954 to 1957. Howard married Jean Elaine Shumway on June 24, 1956.
Howard worked a variety of jobs helping at a cemetery, worked as a meet cutter at Hales Market, worked in construction and retired from the City of Hastings. He was most proud of being a cabinet maker. Howard's hobbies included flying airplanes, building model airplanes, woodworking, building cabinets, and fishing, especially with his favorite fishing partner, wife, Jean. He was a previous member of the Hastings Bike Club where he built his own recumbent bike. He loved the Lord, reading his Bible, the Grace Brethren Church family, and his family.
Howard was preceded in death by his mother Beulah, sister Helen Burleson, and brother Maynard Wilson. He is survived by wife, of 62 years, Jean, son Steve (Mary) Wilson, son Ron Wilson, son Kevin (Karen) Wilson, son Jeff (Cheryl) Wilson, daughter Letha (Leonard) Standler, daughter Patty (Robert) Sherwood, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Girrbach Funeral Home 328 S. Broadway Street, Hastings, Michigan 49058 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be at Grace Brethren Bible Church 600 Powell Road, Hastings, Michigan 49058 on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., visitation one hour prior with pastor Keven Yoder officiating.
