Jacob Bender

Jacob Bender, age 92, passed away on Thursday October 20, 2011. Born in Kalamazoo on February 5, 1919 to Charles and Nina (Dykehouse) Bender.

Jacob is survived by his wife Ruth, 2 sons: Jack (Cindy) Bender of Zeeland, Randy (Mary Lou) Bender of Lansing, 3 grandchildren: Jenny (Frank) Russell of Holland, Joe (Stephanie) Bender of Cabot, AR, Seth Bender of Ada and 4 great grandchildren: Jackie and Maddie Russell and Evie and Johnny Bender.

Jacob moved his family from Kalamazoo to Hastings in 1954 after purchasing the Steinbach Gravel Company. He successfully ran Bender Gravel Company and Barry County Redi-Mix until his retirement and later worked for Kal Equip in Otsego after age 65. He was a member of Rotary and the First United Methodist Church in Hastings. Jake and Ruth lived in Hastings until 2000, when they moved to Lansing. Ruth currently resides at Sheldon Meadows Assisted Living in Hudsonville.
