James Robert Smelker

James Robert Smelker, passed away on December 6, 2014 at Thornapple Manor in Barry County, Michigan.
Born in Freeport on March 15, 1940 to Robert and Agnes (Batey) Smelker. He lived most of his life in the Freeport area and was a graduate of Freeport High School in 1958.
In his early years, Jim worked on the family Dairy Farm and later worked as a well driller with Dutcher/Carlson.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, brother David, first wife Gloria (Chick) Smelker and second wife, Martha Sheehan.
Jim is survived by three sons, Scott, Mark and Brad (Amy), granddaughters, Corinne & Jessica and one brother Kermit Jon (Colleen). Jim retired and moved up north to Custer, Michigan, where he enjoyed feeding and watching wildlife.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be next Spring in Freeport.
