Janet May (Conely) Feighner passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on September 23, 2024, in Lansing, Michigan. She was born on April 30, 1930, the second of three children born to Rex and Gladys Conely. The Depression was in full swing at that time, so her family lived with relatives on a farm near Brown City, Michigan to help make ends meet. However, she spent her formative years growing up in Detroit.
Janet graduated with honors from Detroit Cooley High School. Then Janet graduated from nursing school at Henry Ford Hospital and became a Registered Nurse. She went back to school later in life and earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from Western Michigan University. She worked in various nursing-related positions during her career and eventually retired from the Michigan Department of Social Services.
Janet married Ken Feighner in 1951 while Ken was still a student at Michigan State University. After Ken graduated from college, they lived together in Toledo, Kalamazoo, Lansing, and Nashville, where they raised their three children. They were always very active in a local church in the communities where they lived. After they retired, Janet and Ken traveled together to many diverse places, often along with other relatives. They enjoyed 68 wonderful years together until Ken passed in 2019.
More than anything else, Janet loved spending time with family. She especially enjoyed being the "matriarch" of the Conely Family Reunion each summer at Munuscong, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband Ken, brother Rex Conely, and sister Dorothy Miller.
She is survived by her three children: Debbie (Jerry) McKinley, Rising Sun, IN; Bryce (Eileen) Feighner, Hastings, MI; Scott (Kim) Feighner, Haslett, MI. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
