JoAnn Ruth Guernsey

Joann Ruth Guernsey, a beautiful and kindhearted soul, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, at the age of 98. She was born on January 16, 1928, in Hastings, Michigan, to William and Louise Ducker, Joann deeply loved her hometown and dedicated her life to serving it. Following high school, she worked at Hastings Manufacturing, and upon his return from the Korean War, she married Harland Guernsey.

Joann’s greatest joy was taking care of her family and helping others. A loyal and thoughtful woman, she possessed a happy spirit that shone through her extensive community work. She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hastings, where she lovingly assisted with the ladies' rummage sale and Sunday school classes.

Joann had a special gift for interacting with children of all ages. She served as a Cub Scout den mother, proudly worked in the school lunch program, and volunteered weekly for the elementary reading program. Her generous heart also led her to volunteer at the local hospital, food bank, and soup kitchen. Additionally, she was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Hastings Chapter 7, and always enjoyed organizing her high school class reunions.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Charles Beckwith, and her husband, Harland. She is survived by her children, Charles Harland (Snejana) Guernsey and Melissa Ann (Kelly) Pinnell, her grandchild, Tyler (Paige) Pinnell, and great-grandchild, Elenore Pinnell.
