John James Herbert

John James Herbert age 66 of Hastings, passed away Tuesday October 11, 2011 at Pennock Hospital in Hastings. He was born November 20, 1944 in Burlington, Wisconsin, the son of William F and Bernice C. (Emling) Herbert. He attended St. John's Cathedral in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and graduated from Lansing Adult Education in 1979. John was a Hotel night auditor in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, and Wisconsin. After suffering two strokes and a gunshot wound he worked for a while and then went on disability. John married Lorraine V. Higbee April 2, 1971. He attended Thornapple Valley Church until health made it difficult for him to attend. When he was younger he played the organ at St. Ann's Church in Milwaukee, he was an accomplished pianist. He also enjoyed building model airplanes. Although John was in very poor health for the past 10 years, he made friends wherever he went. He had a beautiful smile for everyone and was always happy. People always asked how he was doing and genuinely wanted to know. John is survived by wife, Lorraine Herbert of Hastings, son Timothy Herbert of Hastings, daughter Tiffany (Pete) Blackwell of Onancock, Virginia, his grandchildren, Andrew & Zachary Higgins of Crandon, WI, Brittany Higgins of Onancock, VA., Mercedes Herbert of Milwaukee, WI, Brad-Lee and Alyssa-Lee Herbert of Algoma, WI,Tiffany Rogers of Scofield, WI, Trenton Bumstead of Hastings, MI, Brenden Herbert of Hastings, MI, 3 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother William C. Herbert.
