John Edward Hughes age 66 of Wayland, Michigan passed away May 6, 2011 at home with his wife and son by his side. John fought a courageous and long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was born June 15, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan the son of Carl and Meriam (Schlatter) Hughes. John attended Flat Rock High School, Flat Rock, Michigan, graduating in 1962. He worked as the district sales manager for Liggett Meyer for over 20 years, Sears in Grand Rapids, for 10 years and for a few years owned his own office coffee service company in Wyoming, Michigan. John served in the Vietnam war from 1962 to 1968. He married Judy McWilliams on May 1, 1998, but were a couple for a total of 23 years. John enjoyed fishing, vacationing, dining out, golfing, cooking for family and friends, camping, playing with his twin grandchildren and loved being with his family and grandchildren. He attended the Gun Lake Community Church. John was preceded in death by his father, Carl Hughes and brother, Ronald Hughes. He is survived by his wife, Judy of Wayland, son, John Hughes Jr. of Wayland, daughter, Michelle Hughes of Kennesaw, GA, grandchildren: Cullam and Lainie of Galesburg, mother, Meriam Hughes of Westland, MI, brother, Howard (Kay) Hughes of Acme,MI, brother, Norman (Susan) Hughes of Metamora, MI, brother, Ernie (Suzanne) Hughes of Wolverine Lake, MI, brother, Steve (Barb) Hughes of Livonia, MI and sister, Cathy Petroff of Dearborn Heights, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or Wings of Hope Hospice, Allegan, MI. Funeral services times and dates are still pending.
