John Ellsworth Mullenix Sr., age 93 of Hastings, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at his home.
John was born in Woodland, Michigan, on April 18, 1924, the son of Sanford James and Bertha Glee (Wagamon) Mullenix.
He graduated from the Woodland Township School in 1942. John honorably served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1945. He married his high school sweetheart, February 9, 1946, soon after he was discharged from the service. He obtained his teaching degree at Michigan State, in 1949. John retired from Hastings High School, where he worked as teacher in the Building Trades Program for many years.
John was a member of the Welcome Corners Church and his hobbies included carpentry, antique cars and traveling.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Maurine Mullenix, parents, Sanford and Bertha Mullenix, and Ruth and Walter Hershburger, siblings: Gwendolyn Wilson, Ellizabeth Mullenix, and Betty Ellis.
John is survived by his children, Suzanne (Phillip) Henry of Kihei, Maui, HI, Ellen Kay (Patrick) Yoder of Elkhart, IN, John Mullenix Jr., of Alexandria, VA, Barbara (Michael) Maloney of Jenison, MI, and Mark Mullenix of Hastings, MI, brother, Robert Mullenix of Battle Creek, MI, 2 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Respecting John's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will take place at a later date. Interment will take place at Woodland Memorial Park Cemetery, Woodland, MI.
