Joyce Reid, of Hastings, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011. She was born in Visalia, California on July 26, 1951, to Raymond and Mary Ellen (Grisham) Schiek. As a small child she moved with her family to Shelton, Connecticut. The Schiek family returned to California in 1961, settling in Wilmington. \r
Joyce graduated from Banning High School in 1969. She continued her education at Southern California College, graduating with a Bachelors of Arts in History and teaching credential in 1973. Her studies culminated in a Masters of Arts with a concentration in gerontology, awarded in 1993. She worked as a psychotherapist at the Fieldstone Center in Battle Creek. \r
Joyce married Steven Reid on June 29, 1974. Shortly after welcoming their son Justin, they relocated from California to Michigan, where daughter Amber was born. She recently became a grandmother to baby Ofelia, who brought great joy to her life.\r
Joyce was passionate about her work with older adults. \r
Her hobbies included gardening, traveling, knitting, and crocheting. \r
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Steven Reid, son Justin Reid, daughter Amber Reid (Luis Lopez), granddaughter Ofelia Lopez-Reid, parents Ray and Mary Ellen Schiek, brothers David (Carolyn) Schiek, Don (Melissa) Schiek, and Wally (Debbie) Schiek, brother-in-laws Andy (Janice) Reid and Dan (Monica) Reid, sister-in-laws Cindy (John) Winebrenner and Carolyn (Marty) Cappon, mother-in-law Dorothy Reid, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.\r
A memorial service was held at First Baptist Church of Hastings on April 18. Memorial contributions can be made to Love Inc. P.O. Box 155, Hastings, Michigan 49058.
