Katherine E. Coman age 98 of Lakeland, Florida passed away February 22, 2011. She was born in Hastings, Michigan, October 7, 1912, the daughter of Guy and Sina (Sonneville) Giddings. Katherine attended Hastings Public schools, graduating in 1930. She then attended County Normal (Western Michigan) in Kalamazoo, MI, receiving her bachelors degree in education, in 1934. Katherine taught her first year in Augusta, MI where she had kindergarten, first grade and music through the sixth grade. Her second year of teaching was in Holt, Michigan, where she taught first grade. The third year of teaching brought her to Battle Creek, MI, where she taught for 37 years, retiring in 1972. \r
Katherine married Wayne W. Coman on June 14, 1947. They lived in or near Battle Creek until moving permanently to Lakeland, Florida in 1989. \r
She attended Trinity Methodist Church in Lakeland, Florida.\r
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wayne Coman(12/1/97), sisters, Beatrice Hiatt and Viola Proos.\r
She is survived by her nephews; Jack Proos , Richard Hiatt, Roger Coman, Robert Coman, Stanley Spray, and Jerry Spray. nieces, Jean Riesmerma, Carolyn Hubbard, Betty Wagner, Shirley Cooner, Bonnie Brinckerhoff and Diane Wortz and great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, March 8, 2011. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the Girrbach Funeral Home in Hastings, MI. Burial at Riverside Cemetery. \r
