Kathleen (Katy) Burr, age 58, of Hastings, passed away unexpectedly at home on June 11, 2015. Katy was born December 10, 1956 in Hastings, the daughter of Charles and Betty (Popps) Flora.
Katy attended Thornapple Kellogg Schools and graduated in 1975. She worked several places while raising her family but her most recent employment was as a Mail Processor for USPS in Grand Rapids, MI, 1998-2009, retiring in 2009. This is where she met James Burr and they married July 31, 2009 in Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii.
Katy had many interests and hobbies including, hiking, biking, cross country skiing, gardening, camping and agate hunting on Lake Superior. She enjoyed many happy days in Holland, Ludington, and Grand Marais; calling Ludington her second home and Grand Marais her great escape. She loved her wild animal friends in the back yard and her three inside cats; Baby, Dolly and Miss Kiddy. Katy was very artistic in beading and making beautiful jewelry. She was quick to compliment, enjoyed entertaining her family, friends and grandchildren and often held family get-to-gethers at her home.
Katy was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Betty Flora; grandparents, Chester and Mary Flora, Russell Popps and Leona McGhee; and several aunts and uncles.
Katy is survived by her loving husband James; sons, Jesse (Cassie) Slater of Allegan, Russell (Marissa) Slater of Caledonia; step-son, James N. Burr of Middleville; grandchildren, Owen, Eva, Ashton, Lula, and Elias Slater; brothers, Charles (Melissa) Flora of Middleville, Bruce Flora of Leesburg, FL; sister, Cindi (Michael) Acton of Allegan; niece, Amanda (Gerrit) Keizer and great-nephew, Ryan and great-niece, Madelyn Keizer of Sparta; brother-in-law, William (Eileen) Burr of Stanton; and special friend, Sue Betterly of Hopkins.
According to Katy's wishes, a private visitation was held with family and friends on Saturday, June 13, 2015 and cremation has taken place.
