Kenneth Alan Ervin

Kenneth Alan Ervin passed away on October 14, 2024, in Hastings, Michigan, at the age of 85. He was born on February 1, 1939, in Highland Park, Michigan, the son of William and Janet (Marchant) Ervin.

After graduation, Ken proudly served his country in the Navy Honor Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, eventually settling in Battle Creek, Michigan. He married Linda (Taylor) Ervin, and they enjoyed 51 years together until her passing in 2023.

Professionally, Ken was a respected member of the Engineering Department of the City of Battle Creek, retiring in 2002. However, it was his voice that made him a local legend. For 32 years, Ken was "the voice of high school sports" in Battle Creek, bringing excitement and passion to the airwaves; also announcing for the Battle Creek Battle Cats Baseball and Minor League Hockey. He later served the community of Hastings as a Parking Enforcement Officer.

Ken's love for sports was not just a professional calling but a personal one as well. He was a devoted fan of the Detroit Tigers and Lions, and he enjoyed golfing and fishing. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandsons play football.  He was affectionately known as "Apa" by his grandchildren. Ken attended Thornapple Valley Church, where he was an active and cherished member.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Linda, and son Joel Ervin.

He is survived by his daughter Leslie (Todd) Boonstra, grandchildren JP Saintamour, Aiden Saintamour, Brandon and Dakota Boonstra, Troy Boonstra, and Alexis (Jesse) Tromp.
