Kenneth Wayne James passed away on October 27, 2024, in Hastings, Michigan. He was born on August 1, 1962, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Jesse Cutis James and Barbara Jean (Russell) Crummel.
Ken attended high school in Shoshoni, Wyoming. Ken worked in the asphalt industry, took pride in driving for a company that hauled campers across the country and was renowned as the best backyard mechanic around. On October 11, 1997, he married Thelma (Moore) James.
Ken had an enduring love for Harleys. His hands were skilled at working on cars and old trucks, a hobby that brought him immense satisfaction. He shared a special bond with his granddaughter Kaitlyn, working with horses and passing on his knowledge and love for these majestic creatures.
Traveling out west and taking scenic backroads were among Ken's favorite ways to explore and unwind. He was a man who appreciated the beauty of the open road and the stories it held. At home, Ken could often be found immersed in the world of westerns, with a particular fondness for John Wayne films. His dedication to the classic TV series "Gunsmoke" was unwavering, never missing an episode.
Ken was preceded in death by his father, Jesse, as well as his father and mother-in-law, Denny and Betty Chase, his brother-in-law Vern DeWitt, and sister-in-law Teri DeWitt.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Thelma Marie (Moore) James, his children Kristy (Paul) McKay and Matthew (Leah) Vincent, and his adored grandchildren, Kaitlyn Cabral, Kelsea McKay, Peyton, and Jensen Vincent. He is also survived by his devoted mother, Barbara (Russell) Crummel, his sister Terry Harvath-James, brother-in-law Steve DeWitt, sisters-in-law Shari DeWitt and Karen Andres, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends, including special friends Derrick Bond and John Spidle, and his dogs, Buddy, Bobo, Harlow, and John Wayne.
