Kevin J. Hughes passed away in his hometown of Hastings, Michigan, on December 23, 2023, just shy of his 66th birthday. Kevin was born on December 27, 1957, in the same town, to Burt and Evelyn (Asplund) Hughes.
Kevin's academic journey was marked by a relentless pursuit of knowledge and a deep appreciation for the intricacies of engineering. He began his studies at Michigan Technological University, where his fascination with the mechanics of how things work took root. Furthering his education, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from Ferris State University, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Western Michigan University. These academic achievements laid the foundation for a successful career that would span decades.
Professionally, Kevin dedicated many years as an automotive engineer to Ford Motor Company, where his contributions were not only valued but also helped shape the industry he loved. Those who knew Kevin would agree that the words that best describe him are intelligent, thoughtful, and sharp.
Beyond the walls of his professional life, Kevin's love for old cars was more than a hobby; it was a bridge to the past, a way to keep history alive. He took great pride in his '59 Mercury Cougar. Kevin's passion for music was equally profound. His extensive collection of thousands of CDs was a testament to his eclectic taste and the joy he found in the melodies and rhythms that soundtrack our lives.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his uncle, Dr. Charles (Pamela) Asplund, Dixie Gillispie, and many cousins who will miss his presence dearly.
A Celebration of Life Gathering is being planned for a later date. Arrangements by Girrbach Funeral Home. To leave an online condolence visit www.girrbachfuneralhome.net.
