Lacerne "Sam" R. Philo

LaCerne R. "Sam" Philo, age 64, of Hastings, Michigan, passed away on August 24, 2022. Sam was born on August 2, 1958, in Coldwater, Michigan, the son of Rex S. Philo and Joan C. (Case) Green.

Sam was a graduate of Union City High School. Sam proudly served his country in the Air Force from 1977 to 1981. On September 27, 1986, Sam married Ellen Makley. He worked at Van Sweden Jewelry, Sam's Watch and Jewelry Repair, and Peckham, Inc.

Sam was a very talented horologist and goldsmith. He loved to fish, grow vegetable gardens, and go antiquing as well as spending time at his place in Baldwin, Michigan. He was a member of the American Legion. Sam was a kind and generous man, and he would help people in any way he could.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, mother and father-in-law Russell and Ardis Makley, brother LaVern Philo, and nephew Ronnie Richardson.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Ellen Philo of Hastings, Michigan, daughters Jamie (Chuck Richter) Makley, Andrea Philo, Amanda (Ben) Philo-DesVoignes, grandchildren Kaylynn and Charlie Richter; Evan, Sidney, and Ella-Lynn Philo; Damion, Tianna, and Kylar Philo; sisters Trena and Susan Philo; Tina Lincoln, and brother Norman Philo.
