Leonard Harvey Spyker, age 90 of Tellico Village, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Park West Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was born in Lawrenceburg, Indiana September 22, 1930.
After moving to Michigan with his parents as a child, he attended schools in Battle Creek, graduating from Battle Creek Central High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Lois M. Good, on January 14, 1951. Shortly after, he was drafted into the US Army, serving 1951-1953.
After the Army, he earned a degree from Western Michigan University and was later employed by the E.W. Bliss Company in Hastings, Michigan as an electrical engineer, retiring in 1991 and moving to Tellico Village, Tennessee in 1996. Leonard had been a member of the Battle Creek Engineers Club, at one point serving as its president. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hastings, there becoming involved with the Boy Scouts of America. His work and dedication to scouting earned him the coveted Silver Beaver Award. Leonard also enjoyed golfing, sailing and traveling with his wife, Lois.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents Earnest and Lois (Walker) Spyker and brother Richard Spyker.
Leonard is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Lois, three sons Steven (Teri) Spyker of Port Charlotte, Florida, Marvin (Suzy) Spyker of Frisco, Colorado, Stuart (Melissa) Spyker of Lawton, Michigan, two grandsons Nicholas (Courtney) Spyker, Frank (Shelly) Misak, five great-grandchildren and special nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Leonard's life will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist (Green Street) Church, 209 W Green St, Hastings, MI 49058. Memorial contributions may be made to Family Promise, C/O First United Methodist Church, 209 W.
