M. Joan Baines, age 75 of Hastings, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Thornapple Manor. She was born September 20, 1935 in Hastings, MI, the daughter of George and Luella (Smith) Slocum. Joan attended Hastings Public Schools and was a 1953 graduate of Hastings High School. \r
She worked more than 20 years for the Hastings Banner Press and Hastings Press; 2 years at Great Lake Federal Savings; 3 years for Cary Display Co., and retired July 31, 1998 after working almost 8 years in the offices of the County Seat Lounge. Joan and Robert L. Baines were married October 22, 1954 and were married for 56 years. She loved music, dancing, traveling and motorcycle riding. \r
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Marguerite Butler, and sister-in-law, Virginia Holt.\r
She is survived by her husband, Robert Baines of Hastings, daughter, Ann (Ronald) Martin of Hastings, son, R. Eric (Lora) Baines of Wyoming, MI, grandchildren, Stacey, Joseph and Lexi, great grandchildren, Madeline, Nathan and Natalie, brother, Robert (Katie) Slocum of Middleville, sister, Gina (Bernie) Blough of Hastings and many nieces and newphews. \r
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Thornapple Manor, 2700 Nashville Rd. Hastings, MI 49058 or Barry Community Hospice, 450 Meadow Run, Hastings, MI 49058. Arrangements are by the Girrbach Funeral Home in Hastings. \r
