Sue Sprague, of Woodland, Michigan, passed away on October 15, 2026, at the age of 94. She was born on February 21, 1932, in Nashville, Michigan, to Ernest and Golah Mae (Appleman) Rasey.
Sue graduated as salutatorian from Nashville High School in 1949 and remained there to serve as the school secretary. On August 9, 1952, she married Thomas Sprague, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with family, hard work, and many shared ventures. While Thomas served in the Air Force, Sue worked for Civil Service.
Together, Sue and Thomas were involved in several businesses, including farming, sporting goods, tax preparation, and manufacturing fishing tackle. Sue employed four people in their tackle business, and in one remarkable year, they produced 54,000 tip-ups for K&E Tackle.
Sue enjoyed many interests, including cookie and cake decorating, cooking, teaching, crafts, sewing, flowers, gardening, and genealogy. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she devoted time to Bible studies and teaching Sunday school. She was active in her community and, above all, treasured her family and dearly loved her grandchildren.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; daughters Karen Sue Burch and Nancy Colleen Hamel; and many brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas; children, Dr. Thomas (Carol) Sprague, Jr., and Pamela (Randy) Wentzloff; son-in-law, Leigh Burch; and 14 grandchildren, along with 17 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on October 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Woodgrove Brethren Christian Parish, 4887 Coats Grove Road, Hastings, Michigan 49058. A luncheon will follow the service.
