Marjorie "Marge" E. Conrad, a cherished, quick-witted woman known for her kind, yet sassy, personality passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024, at the age of 94.
Marge was born on December 3, 1929, to Gustav and Daisy (Thompson) Schmidt. She was the youngest of five children and was raised in Kaleva, MI. After graduating from Kaleva Rural Agricultural High School, she met and married the love of her life, Lyle B. Conrad on June 12, 1948. They went on to have their two children, Alan and Marla, and finally settled in Hastings, where she lived in the same home for nearly 65 years until moving to Green Acres of Wayland.
After her children entered school, Marge went on to work in the laundry department as a supervisor at The Barry County Medical Facility, now known as Thornapple Manor, until she retired after 32 years of employment to care for her husband. She took pride in getting to know the residents personally and treated them like her own family, as she continued to visit residents for many years well into retirement.
Marge will be fondly remembered by her family and friends for being a fantastic baker; in particular her homemade bread and strawberry jam, fabulous pies, and cookies. Marge made sure to share her love of sweets with all at Christmas time, spending the entire month of December making all kinds of goodies! Her summer months were spent caring for her meticulous lawn which she mowed herself until she was 90; as well as continuing to maintain a large garden (carrying many five-gallon buckets on multiple trips back and forth to water it) always making sure she had enough green beans to share with the family the entire season.
Leaving to relish in such an outstanding woman's legacy, are those she loved so very much: her son, Alan Conrad, and daughter, Marla (Stuart) Baker. Her grandchildren: Jennifer (Chris) Stafford, Jillian (Damon) LaJoye, Megan Baker, Stephanie Conrad, Scott Conrad, and Wesley Baker and all of her adoring great - grandchildren: Benjamin, Madi, Nicholas, Riley, Clark, Gabriel, Brayden, Abigail, Gwen, Konner, Osiris, and Abraxas as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She is joining many loved ones gone before her including her loving husband, Lyle, and beloved daughter-in-law, Linda. Her parents, and in-laws, Alson and Laura Conrad, her sister, Eva Lemponen, her brothers Wilbert, Ersie, and Arbie Schmidt, and sister-in-law, Katie Barlow, as well as numerous others she cared about dearly.
The family wishes to extend many heartfelt thanks for the exceptional care and affection Marge received during her time at Green Acres of Wayland.
