Mark Charles Horning, age 68 of Hastings, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2017, at his home in Hastings, with family by his side.
Mark was born on May 22, 1948 in Midland, Michigan, the son of Murvel L. and Rosemary F. Wright. He attended Midland High School, graduating in 1966.
In Mark's early years he worked for Lloyd's Market in Midland as a Butcher (62-73), he owned a Produce Market (73-74), worked for A-1 Tool in Mt. Pleasant (74-81), moved to Texas and owned and operated Horning's Pipe Service (83-86) and from 1986 to 1990 owned and operated a remodeling business. He moved his family to the Hastings Area in 1991 and worked as a superintendent for a Union painting firm until he retired in 2010.
Mark married the love of his life, Vicki Denzel on August 17, 1968 and they have been happily married for 48 years, 8 months and 17 days.
Mark was a member of TVC Church and volunteered in the Food Pantry and also painted the inside of the church. He enjoyed bowing, golfing, fishing, grilling, and wine tours. Mark's favorite thing to do was to spend time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Murvel Lloyd Horning, father-in-law, Charles Denzel, and mother-in-law, Dorothy Denzel.
Mark is survived by wife, Vicki Horning, son, Jeffrey Mark Horning, daughter, Jodie Lynn (Dustin) Gillons, granddaughter, Gracie Lynn Gillons, mother, Rosemary (Wright) Horning, brothers, Neal (Marilyn) Horning of Traverse City, Willard (Sue) Horning of Clearwater, FL, Curt (Diane) Horning of Midland, sisters, Fran Boyle of Traverse City and Diane Horning also of Traverse City.
Donations to the TVC Food Pantry or Blood donations to the Lemmon Holten Cancer Center or American Red Cross would be appreciated. Also contributions to the Lemmon Holten Cancer Center in Grand Rapids or Faith Hospice in Grand Rapids, would also be appreciated.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 3-5pm at the Girrbach Funeral Home in Hastings. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 8, 2017 at 12:00 pm at Thornapple Valley Church, 2750 S. M-43 Hwy., Hastings, MI 49058. Interment will take place at Hastings Township Cemetery. Pastor Jeff Arnett will officiate the service.
