Mike Keeler Jr. , age 57 of Douglas, Michigan , passed away Saturday July 5, 2008 at home surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.\r
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Irene (Wiswell) Keeler . \r
Mike came to Hastings in 1957 and graduated from Hastings High School in 1968. He earned his BA with a double major in Social work and Criminal Justice from Western Michigan University in 1973. \r
He started his career at Barry County Friend of the Court as a Caseworker in 1975. He was named ""Friend of the Court by the Governor on January 1, 1980. He served in that position until his retirement on January 30, 2004. Mike dedicated his life to the welfare of children and families. \r
He was the President of the Friend of the Court Association from 1989 to 1991. He received an award from the State Bar of Michigan for West Michigan Family Law Practice on January 31, 1995 and was awarded the Liberty Bell Award on May 1, 1998 and also an award from the Michigan Supreme Court , State Court Administrative office for 28 years of service demonstrating his integrity, diligence and service to children and families upon his retirement.\r
Mike is survived by his brother, Andrew (Jack) Keeler and sister in-law Connie Keeler, nephew Craig (Bonnie) Keeler, niece, Angela (Randy) Snore, great nieces, Ashton , Amber and Kadie Snore, great nephew, Adam Keeler, a special friend, Elizabeth White and many friends. \r
A Memorial service was held on Sunday July 6, 2008 at 6:30 pm at the Girrbach Funeral Home in Hastings.\r
