Miriam Gail Hess, age 85 of Hastings, Michigan passed away, Monday, June 27, 2011 at Thornapple Manor in Hastings. She was born June 23, 1926 in Springfield, Illinois the daughter of Leroy and Fern (Cooke) Foster. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1944 and later attended the University of Michigan. Miriam started working at EW Bliss in 1966 as a blueprint clerk and later retired in 1990. She later returned to EW Bliss as a contract worker in 1991. Miriam married Charles Edward Hess in Battle Creek, MI in 1945. She was president of the Alumni Board, did volunteer work at Thornapple Manor for seven years, delivered meals on wheels, was a member of the First United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir. Miriam was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Hess in 1991 and long time companion Archie Miller of Pheshabe Town in 1994. She is survived by her children: Kendra (Dave) Green of Phoenix, AZ, Gordon (Cindy) Hess of Hastings, Mary Houghtalin of Hastings, Don (Lindsey) Hess of Hastings, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, brothers: Richard Foster of Hastings, Phil Foster of Phoenix, AZ and Bob (Jean) Foster of Kalamazoo.
Gail was a good friend to all that knew her. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
