Mitchell Gayle Gillons passed away peacefully on July 5, 2024, in Grand Rapids, Michigan with his two daughters by his side. He was born on December 19, 1955, in Hastings, Michigan, to Wesley and Opal (Harvey) Gillons.
Mitch graduated from Hastings High School in 1974. His professional life was dedicated to serving others, retiring from the Michigan Department of Corrections in 2008 after 30 years, and also working for the Hastings Area School System.
A man of many passions, Mitch found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Mitchey or Goob, as he was known by his closest family and friends, spent his life creating joy for those around him. Whether he was bringing flowers to the ladies in town or at home with extracurriculars while engaging in lively discussions about doomsday prepping, antique cars and collectibles, or preserving mother nature, he always brought a smile to everyone he met.
Mitch was and continues to be a gift and light to this world. He approached life with a heart full of laughter and love, spreading joy effortlessly wherever he went. His ability to leave everything better than he found it was a testament to his character and the indelible mark he left on the world.
Mitch was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Gillons, brother Jeff Gillons, sister-in-law Julie Gillons, and nephew Nolan Heath.
Mitch's legacy is carried on by his mother, Opal Gillons; daughters, Mychelle (Matt) Paczolt, Ashley Gillons; grandchildren, Tommy, Sybaztion, Elyjah, Ali and Wesley; brothers, Greg and Danny Gillons; and sister Terry (Keith) Bushee, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Charlton Park Main Pavilion on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 3:00-3:30 PM, with a celebration of life potluck from 3:30 – 6:00 PM. Please bring a dish to pass if able. Memorial Contributions can be made to your favorite local charity in Mitch's name. Arrangements by Girrbach Funeral Home.
